Abbreviations

Overview

  • An abbreviation is an acronym, or a shortened form of a word or phrase. For example, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and Mass. (Massachusetts).
  • In standards-compliant browsers such as the one seen below, abbreviations appear underscored by a dotted line.
  • Placing the cursor inside the abbreviation causes a tooltip to appear, displaying the expanded version of the abbreviation.
