ScriptQ: Job Queuing That Makes Better Use Of Valuable Computer Resources

ScriptQ sequences the execution of server-side jobs (written in VBScript or JavaScript) and is ideal for developers building applications that run batch or asynchronous jobs. ScriptQ orders jobs in a series for execution, according to user-defined priorities, reschedules failed jobs, and prevents "bad" jobs from blocking the execution of valid jobs. The result is a more regular job flow and systems that stay up and running.

Using ScriptQ for processing jobs alleviates congestion or strain on computer resources such as CPU, I/O, memory and network, and adds load balancing, scalability and availability to applications that rely on ScriptQ services.

Illustration of jobs being queued by ScriptQ.

The precedence for job execution in ScriptQ is based on job priority, with high priority jobs executing before low priority jobs, regardless of when jobs are placed in the queue. Jobs can also be grouped together, so that a specific order of execution is maintained. When jobs are placed in the queue synchronously, the application that placed the job in the queue waits until the job completes. When jobs are placed in the queue asynchronously, the application placing the job in the queue is immediately free to continue doing other work.
